Star Wars Battlefront II Hero Costs Cut After Outrage

Star Wars Battlefront II will be coming out on Friday but it seems that EA may be wishing they had chosen an earlier release date. That's after a number of gamers have been cancelling their pre-orders for the game.

EA Access subscribers, who are able to play the game early, have realised that unlocking certain playable heroes like Darth Vader will require a massive 40-hour grind or paying to unlock, even if you have already forked out $80 for the Elite Trooper Deluxe Edition. And the news didn't go down well when it arrived on Reddit. And when an EA Community representative thought it would be a good idea to defend the decision, it really didn't go down too well. The comment has now become the most downvoted comment in Reddit history.

“The intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes.

As for cost, we selected initial values based upon data from the Open Beta and other adjustments made to milestone rewards before launch. Among other things, we're looking at average per-player credit earn rates on a daily basis, and we'll be making constant adjustments to ensure that players have challenges that are compelling, rewarding, and of course attainable via gameplay.

We appreciate the candid feedback, and the passion the community has put forth around the current topics here on Reddit, our forums and across numerous social media outlets.

Our team will continue to make changes and monitor community feedback and update everyone as soon and as often as we can.”

The issue for a lot of gamers, is that if you do not want to grind out the 40 hours of gameplay (each match will last around 15 minutes for perspective), players can unlock their favourite heroes by swiping their credit card. And unlike other games where cosmetic changes may be added extras, in Star Wars Battlefront II, playing as a hero is not only a huge cosmetic change but also gives you a huge advantage over the others in that match.

To try and repair the damage done down, John Wasilczyk, executive producer at DICE, announced that the company would be reducing the amount of credits needed to unlock characters in the game. But in doing that, it seems that they have created another dilemma in that completing the campaign will now only reward you 5,000 credits instead of the previous 20,000 credits. Reducing the price of heroes and then reducing the number of credits earned doesn't really change anything, does it?

Star Wars Battlefront II will be coming out for consoles and PC on the 17th of November. Will you be getting the game?
