We’ve been slowly provided with details about the upcoming next generation consoles and Microsoft has finally decided to officially announce their project – the Xbox Series X.

And if that sounds familiar to you, Microsoft have decided to go with a similar name to the Xbox One X, which will surely confuse many gamers about whether it’s another iteration of the current generation or a brand new console.

Microsoft is aiming to provide an experience “where worlds are even more lifelike, immersive responsive and surprising” with this brand new console.

It will also be the fastest, most powerful console ever and Microsoft has promised that it will set a “new bar for performance, speed and compatibility”. But that was to be expected with a new generation console.

Furthermore, if the shape and design of the console has confused you, don’t worry as Microsoft has stated that it  can placed vertically or horizontally.

Also arriving with the new console will be a new Xbox Wireless controller although it won’t look too different to what gamers will currently have with their Xbox One. The size and shape of the controller has been “refined to accommodate an even wider range of people”. Also being introduced will be a Share button (similar to the PlayStation 4’s DualShock 4 controller) that will allow players to capture screenshots and game clips easily. Microsoft has also taken inspiration from the Xbox Elite Series 2 Wireless Controller and has included an advanced d-pad to the controller re-design.

The news that many gamers will be most excited about is that the Xbox Series X will have backwards compatibility. That isn’t too surprising with how it was available with the Xbox One. However, what is great is that the new console will be compatible with four generations of gaming. Additionally, all Xbox One gaming accessories and services like the Game Pass will be available with the Series X.

Are you excited about this announcement? And do you like the name – Xbox Series X? Leave your thoughts in the comments below.
