Rockstar crushes dreams of a GTA V Story DLC

Fans have spent the last few years hoping that Rockstar would release a singleplayer DLC for Grand Theft Auto V. But it seems that those dreams may have been crushed with Rockstar design director Imran Sarwar all but confirming that we won't be receiving one.

Rockstar never truly promised a singleplayer DLC but after GTA 4 received The Ballad of Gay Tony and The Lost and Damned, it was fair to think that we might get some sort of a story DLC for one of the worlds best-selling games of all time. Imran Sarwar, in an exclusive interview with Game Informer, explained that "it was not really a conscious decision, it’s just what happened" when asked about the lack of a story mode DLC for GTA V.

“As a company we love single-player more than anything, and believe in it absolutely – for storytelling and a sense of immersion in a world, multiplayer games don’t rival single-player games. With GTA V, the single-player game was absolutely massive and very, very complete. It was three games in one.”

Rockstar did tease gamers in 2013, writing in a post on their official blog that "we have big plans for substantial additions in 2014 continuing Michael, Franklin and Trevor's action, mayhem and unexpected adventures in Southern San Andreas" but nothing else was ever spoken of about this tease again.

Were you looking forward to a single player story?

  • My kids play lots of games and I think single player games are really the way to go. Let's face it. People don't always have their family or friends to hang out with. Sometimes people just want some "me quality time". I think ALL the games should be single player/multiplayer. IMHO.
