After a somewhat quiet start to Red Dead Online, a whole host of changes and additions to the game have helped improve the online experience and allow players to “roam freely and experience the world in their own chosen way”. 

And it looks like we’ll be getting some more changes in the future including three unique roles that players will be able to play as (most commonly known as a class system in other games). 

The specialist roles that will arrive at some point later in the summer will allow players to go down a unique path of progression, each of which will provide you with a unique experienced with “tailored gameplay elements and benefits that will allow players to become even more deeply connected to their character and the choices they make as they inhabit the world of Red Dead Online”.

“This fundamental change points to the long term future of Red Dead Online – a world where players coexist in an uneasy peace, choosing to band together or striking out alone, fighting to survive in a world full of threats and opportunities as they build a life for themselves on the frontier.”

The first three Roles will be:

• The Bounty Hunter - As a licensed Bounty Hunter, you will be able to track down targets and capture them (or even kill them if necessary). From time to time, players with high enough bounties may become your next target. As you progress through your role, you will be able to unlock special items/abilities that will include reinforced lassos, intricate gun-spinning tricks and even advanced tracking skills. 

• The Trader - As a trader, you will be required to establish and develop a business from your camp. You will need to collect materials and produce valuable goods that you can then sell. As you become a better trader, you will unlock the ability to add a weapons locker, a stew pot and even a canine companion to your camp. You will also be able to improve your satchel and even add a hunting wagon to your business “to bring in bigger hauls”.

• The Collector - Want to spend your time exploring the world for rare and valuable items? The Collectors role is perfect. Spend your time searching for lost jewelry, rare arrowheads and other treasures that can be sold individually or as highly valuable sets. And as you progress through your role, you will unlock refined binoculars, a horse lantern, and even a metal detector!

But don’t worry, you won’t be stuck trying to choose one role that is perfect for you. You will be able to play as and progress through all three roles simultaneously (if you want).

The next update to arrive for Red Dead Online will also give users the ability to reset their character’s appearance so keep an eye out for that.
