It really hasn’t been long since PlanetSide Arena was launched on Steam as an early access title and players won’t have too long to play it as the servers will be shut down very soon.

The game’s servers will be shut down on the 10^th of January 2020 at around 8 PM EST. Whilst some players will be sad, many will be happy to hear that refunds will be made. The team are working with Steam to ensure that any refunds will be made for any purchases made during Early Access. The refund will be made automatically to your Steam Wallet after the servers are shut down.

To avoid any confusion with players, DLC and hard currency purchase options have already been removed from Steam.

The decision comes after the low population levels in the game made “it impossible to sustain the gameplay experience we envisioned”. The development team had originally “set out with an ambitious vision for a game that combined the massive-scale combat and camaraderie of PlanetSide” but it wasn’t to be.

If you do have any Battle Coins or Certs in-game, make sure to spend any of these virtual currency that you already have on your account whilst you can. You will still be refunded for all of these purchases once the servers are shut down.

During the launch of PlanetSide Arena, the game amassed over 1,481 concurrent players but this fell sharply to just 55 on the 17^th of November. The number fell further to a measly 12 in the past few days which tells the story clearly of the failures of PlanetSide Arena.
