Mr. Resetti Has Lost His Job In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

In this current economy, it seems that even video game characters aren’t safe from unemployment and long searches for a replacement job.

In an interview with Mashable during E3 2019, project lead for the upcoming Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Aya Kyogoku revealed that Mr. Resetti has lost his job at the Reset Surveillance Center. His layoff was caused by the new auto-save function that is available on the Nintendo Switch which will make him some-what useless in the upcoming game.

“I think this will be a positive thing for the player, because in New Horizons you can stop playing in the middle of your game and it'll still save”.

“But unfortunately because there's no necessity to reset the game or reset button on the Switch, Mr. Resetti had a hard time. He was laid off from his position.”

For those of you that didn’t have to suffer through some of Mr. Resetti’s rants aimed at you, Mr. Resetti has been a character in most Animal Crossing titles so far and his main job was to rant at you if you ever decided to reset your game without saving. This was usually done by players to somewhat cheat the game’s real-time conditions although some may have encountered a legitimate game reset. If this was the case, Mr. Resetti would usually teach you to always save or ensure that your batteries were charged.

But that’s not where the trouble ended for players that went through a game reset. For Animal Crossing: City Folk (2008), parents were actually warned that his personality and tone might be “authoritative and may be disturbing to young children” in the instruction manual.

For players that might have had a little soft spot for Mr. Resetti, fear not, as he will be in the upcoming game, with Kyogoku teasing that “Mr. Resetti is looking for a new job after his layoff. So please look forward to that”.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons was recently announced for the Nintendo Switch at Nintendo’s E3 event on Tuesday. The game will be released on the 20th of March 2020 so there will be plenty of time for Mr. Resetti to find a suitable job.

If this isn’t the first indication that technology is going to take over all over our jobs, I’m not sure what is. Are you happy that Mr. Resetti won’t be bothering you anymore? Or are you sad for his loss of job? Leave your thoughts in the comments below.
