Free-To-Play Warzone Released As Standalone Game

The rumours and leaks were circulating through the internet for the past few weeks, and they can finally stop as Call of Duty: Warzone has finally arrived.

The free-to-play and cross-platform game will act as a standalone game for any players that do not own Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. For any Modern Warfare owners, the game mode will act as a smaller update that will allow them to play the game through the Main Menu.

Warzone will see players dropped into a massive combat area, set in the “expansive and dense city of Verdansk”, where they will have to battle 150 other players to get a victory.

Similar to the main multiplayer mode, players can set up loadouts before dropping into a match of Warzone. Once you have set up your loadout, this can be made available by purchasing a loadout drop from a store that can be found across the map.

Warzone currently has two game modes, with many more set to arrive after the games initial launch. The main mode is, of course, Battle Royale, which only has Trios available at the moment. All you have to do is make sure that you are the last squad standing to win. The second game mode is called Plunder and will require your team to collect more cash than the other teams. Once you reach a $1 million, a timer will begin and the team with the most cash at the end of the timer will win. This mode will have respawns enabled.

Furthermore, fear not, if you’re worried about finding time to balance between the Battle Royale mode and other COD game modes, your progression is “completely unified”. This means that your progress made in Warzone will carry over to Multiplayer and Special Ops. This includes Player XP, Weapon XP and Battle Pass Tier progression. Playing the Battle Royale mode will be especially good for Battle Pass progression as it depends a lot on the amount of time you are in a game. Therefore, surviving until the end of a Battle Royale game will help you progress through your Battle Pass quickly.

The standalone game for anyone that does not own Modern Warfare will amount to around 8-101GB whilst current players can enjoy a much smaller update of just 18-22GB depending on their platform.

Are you looking forward to dropping in? And do you think Call of Duty: Warzone has the potential to beat some of the other popular Battle Royale games? Leave your thoughts in the comments below.
