For the entirety of Minecraft, players have been limited to using custom skins on PC or downloading others to make themselves look good. But a character creator will finally be coming to Minecraft.

The feature will bring with it the ability to personalize their avatar including body shape, hairstyles, facial hair, and skin tones. Players will be able to choose from over 100 customization items for free or purchase items that have been created by Minecraft.

Players will also have a chance to take part in Minecraft related activities in-game to gain access to a range of free and unique accessories for their characters.

The feature will arrive to Minecraft’s beta build and is only available for Xbox One, Windows 10 and Android versions of Minecraft at the moment. The feature will then be rolled out to Minecraft Earth and other Bedrock platforms like iOS and Nintendo Switch once the beta has finally come to an end.

The feature was being developed for Minecraft Earth, “but during the process, we got so invested in endlessly designing our own weirdo hairdos, that this frequently requested feature was extended to the Bedrock version of the vanilla game”.

As with any cosmetic change, Minecraft has clarified that these customizations are “purely cosmetic and will not make you stronger, faster or able to smell diamonds”.

The Minecraft team has also hinted that capes will be arriving in the future so make sure to keep an eye out for that!
